Muong Hoa Valley

Anyone getting a motorbike will see the beauty of this valley when riding from Sapa. Some of the most picturesque topography of Vietnam lies in this valley. Farmers on the paddies are quite the photo opportunity at any time of the year. The colours change throughout each season, but the beauty stays the same. It is a delightful frame.

It’s around 10km from Sapa to this valley. People usually hire motorbikes. This option offers some amazing views, though it’s not for the fainthearted. There are curves, dips and bumps across the valley roads. Recently, the Muong Hoa Train has opened. This can be a pleasant way to see different parts of thevalley. The train goes all the way to Fansipan Mountain.

Muong Hoa Valley is a collection of various minority groups living in the area. The Giay, Dao and Hmong groups are the most prevalent in the valley. You’ll see these groups all over Sapa Town. They are very friendly and will offer to help. They want you to enjoy their way of life. Lao Chai Village has some great views. Visitors can stay overnight in Tan Van Village. The stilted houses are made entirely of wood. A locally made lunch is worth a try in one of the villages.

Other villages around offer more extensive attractions. An ancient stone field with mystical patterns and formations can be explored in Ban Pho Village. This looks incredible but is also believed to have spiritual meaning. There’s a church in Ta Phim Village. Join in the singing if you come during spring. The villagers want to see you. Bring some money for tips or to buy handmade souvenirs to show appreciation if you can.

March to May is a good time for walking. The Hoa Stream has a nice hike. It’s an easy walk and the views are postcard-worthy. The atmosphere can elevate your spirits. You’ll want to see more and more, especially on a nice day in spring.

Muong Hoa Valley is between Sapa Town and Fansipan. It can be accessed by motorbike, car or on foot. A train departs from Sapa Town from the Hotel de la Couple – McGallery by Sofitel. Tickets around 100,000 VND each way.
