This is a good place to go on your first day of arrival in Sapa. The time when you are getting your bearings. Sapa Museum can help you to gain a bit more insight into life around the area. The whole museum curation is located inside an ethnic stilt house. It is a cosy and compact place, storing facts, stories, and various artifacts surrounding Sapa and its history.
There are hundreds of ornaments, monuments, and books maintained here. Facts and information about the ethnic minorities of Sapa can be discovered. The 1st floor holds various documents about Sapa and its past, including its relationship with previous Dynasties and the French. Formal dress of ethnic groups can be viewed in more detail here.
There are quite a few traditional crafts stored in the museum. It is a useful place to begin a journey around Sapa. Gaining insight into the history and various ways of life in the area brings further enlightenment to the journey. There are handmade crafts and souvenirs available to purchase from the Hmong and Dao ethnic groups on the ground floor of the museum. Make sure there’s a fixed price, otherwise you may pay more than you bargained for.
Sapa Museum is open from 08:00-17:00. Times are extended during busy tourist periods. Entry is free.
