The ancient Champa Sanctuary and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, My Son ruins, feature many beautiful sandstone sculptures, temples, and towers made of red brick, all set in a tropical jungle.
My Son gathers over 70 constructions dedicated to Hindu gods and goddesses, including Shiva, the protector of Champa kings, being the most famous. The place is also a royal burial ground. Renovated by the French in 1898 and partially destroyed by American bombs, much of the site still stands with some parts rebuilt. The Sanctuary is very impressive, and some people even compare this place to Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
Located 70 km inland from Da Nang and 40 km from Hoi An, you can visit this place all year round but try to get there early in the morning before it gets too hot, and later in the day, the place gets busy with visitors from these two cities. Taking a half-day tour is an option, but getting there by yourself will save you a lot of money.
