Don Cao Fortress is at the top of the mountain peak in Dong Van with ruins of a French fort. It takes about 30 minutes to go up the mountain, which is quite an exercise, but you will be rewarded with spectacular views of Dong Van and, more importantly, breathtaking vast rice paddies.
The ruins offer not only a panoramic view but also historical insights into this region. Don Cao means “high fortress” thanks to its location at the top point, from which the French army could observe the surrounding area and defend its position. There is a bunker and a yard with a viewpoint perched at 1,200 meters above the sea level.
