About this Experience
Itinerary
Saigon’s current incarnation as a hive of trade and cultural mixture is nothing new: this photographic wander through the city’s historic Chinatown reveals Buddhist pagodas, former French school and street markets selling everything you can imagine. The home of Saigon’s once-large ethnic Chinese community, ‘Cho Lon’ still bears traces of this history, with plenty of Mandarin signage, dim sum stalls and an assembly hall built by immigrants from the north. While navigating this bustling labyrinth of backstreets and temples, you’ll work on a variety of street photography techniques, and put together a series exploring daily life in Saigon’s atmospheric Chinatown.

On January 16, 2023, my wife and I had the pleasure to be escorted by Adrien Jean of Adrien Jean Photography in the wonderful area of Cho Lon in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. From the first time Adrien and I exchanged emails, I had a feeling that this was going to be a special day and it certainly was. Adrien was so commutative and prompt in responding to me that I knew he was conscientious and professional. Adrien was punctual (promptly at 5:30AM) with our pickup at the hotel and off we went for our adventure. The weather was perfect, and we spent the next four hours walking, touring, and taking incredible images. He knew this area of “Old Saigon'' like the back of his hand. His familiarity allowed us to see places and get vantage points that we would not have achieved had we had been on our own. In addition to his enthusiasm and character, his acumen for the technique of photography was incredible. As a professional myself, it's always great to be with someone who understands the craft and skills needed to take “good” images. After a few minutes of meeting Adrien, we were old friends and soulmates through the wonder of photography. He even bought us a snack and coffee during our walk and then delivered us back safely to our hotel with thankfulness and many memories. Our day spent together was the first of thirty-two we spent in Vietnam and what a way to start our adventure. I shared my images with Adrien along our way and he was always ready to acknowledge them and offer words of encouragement. Should you get a chance to visit Vietnam and are looking for a wonderful guide and even better human being I would strongly encourage you to contact Adrien.

Wow what a great experience this was! I’ve lived in Saigon for 4 years and have tried and failed at going on photowalks by myself.
Yes the new places I discovered on this walk were stunning and full of character - just like the locals, however what really made this walk special was Adrien. His passion for street photography really showed.
From the first moment we met at a coffee shop to discuss the day, to him giving us a book of his tips and tricks and most importantly his authentic and fun interactions with the locals! I always felt awkward and shy asking people for photos but Adrien gave me some tips that I practiced and now it has become a worry no more.
Overall a fantastic day with some great photos of new locations. 5 star!

I can definitely recommend the Cholon photography tour with Adrien. First of all he knows a lot of hidden places I never would have found or stair cases I would not have dared to climb. Secondly, he speaks Vietnamese which makes interaction with locals a lot easier. Adrien made me feel very comfortable throughout the tour and is more than willing to share his skills.

What a fantastic few hours around the markets and China Town with Adrien.
It was a last minute booking and I'm so pleased I did it. Adrien was a pleasure to be with and his enthusiasm for street photography is contagious.
Thoroughly enjoyed seeing places I wouldn't have visited on my own and came home with memory cards full of images.
Will definitely get in touch again if I'm in Ho Chi Minh.

I book the afternoon tour with Adrien, and I cannot more than recommend to do a street photo experience with him! After getting to know each other he will bring you to amazing places, off the charts, and guide you to your journey in street photo, whatever your level is. A must to do if you like photography and want to explore the world of street photo!

A wonderful day spent alongside Adrien to discover another Saigon, authentic, far from the tourists. A beautiful experience, beautiful shared emotions. A vision of your photography that I greatly appreciate, like the sharing of your passion, an approach to the population made easier by the fact that you speak Vietnamese! And thank you for your kindness! Don't hesitate to try this experience. Marie
Adrien introduced me to an intimate Saigon, full of life, colors, etc. outside the traditional tourist circuits. His knowledge and photographic skills nourished our discussions on our respective work and approaches. A great day of sharing and discoveries. Philippe

What a great way to start in Ho Chi Minh City. I have been to HCMC a few times before and always found it quite daunting.
Doing the tour with Adrien showed me areas I had never seen before and would never have found without him. His chats with Vietnamese locals enabled me to be calm and confident while photographing. Adrien has a fantastic eye for composition and he is more than willing to share methods and techniques. It was also great chatting about street photography / photography in general.
Anyone in HCMC with an interest in street photography. This is a must.
