Saigon Street Photography Half-Day Experience
This truly unique experience was created together with a renowned photographer Frederik Wissink. Originally from Canada, Fred spent more than half of his life in Asia, calling Vietnam his home for the last 17 years. Since he moved to this amazing country, Fred has been doing commercial work for major hotel brands including Accor, Hyatt, and Four Seasons, and corporations like Google, Samsung and Nike.
He did assignments for international media including The New York Times, The Guardian, USA Today, and Discovery Channel. His works were published on the covers of Conde Nast Traveller and Car & Driver magazines. Fred participated in multiple photo exhibitions and published his portrait book called Expat.
Aside from Fred’s successful career in commercial photography, his true passion has always been street photography. Fred spent several years as an instructor of Hoi An Photo Tour and occasionally co-hosts Pics of Asia multi-day tours around various parts of Vietnam.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This tour was amazing! The experience with Fred taught me how to look at the world through a photographer's eyes. For context, I am a noobie photographer with little to no experience. Fred began with explaining the basic components of photography (e.g., aperture, shutter speed, composition), before taking us on a 2h walking tour through local Saigon alleys and mid-20th century apartment buildings, which are full of character and heritage. During the tour, Fred gave us tips on how to interact with our subjects, and things to consider when doing street photography (e.g., lighting, framing, angles, what to look for), all of which really taught me a lot. After the tour, I continued to practice the lessons and am able to appreciate at the world more through the lens! For the noobie photographer, his fun character and clear expertise will have you looking at the world in a new way - for the experienced photographer, some of his private tours may help you to get the winning shot!

I really enjoyed this tour! It gave me the opportunity to stop.. look around.. and really take in all of the beauty that Saigon has to offer. The guide was excellent - very knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. The pace was casual, we went to some really cool spots, and then we had a chance to learn while also exploring a bit on our own. Also the group size was perfect at 10. Highly recommend!

I was so excited when I saw that Vietnam Is Awesome was offering this experience as a free community tour! Frederick did a great job leading the group through a variety of destinations in the heart of Ho Chi Minh. The small group allowed for guests to ask any questions they had a firm relationships with other participants. We had the chance to see and capture many different sights of beautiful French inspired architecture! I would definitely look to do something like this again and I am already trying to find a new tour to book with Vietnam Is Awesome.
