Highlights
- Have a great opportunity to see the most famous spots in Hanoi
- Have a great lunch in a local restaurant in Hanoi’s old quarter
- Know more about Hanoi people and the daily life of locals
- Visit some local markets, street food stalls, and unique workshops in Hanoi
Itinerary
Our tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Old quarter at about 8 AM, driving you to Tran Quoc Pagoda. This place is located on an island east of West Lake (Tay Ho District), which is considered to be the oldest in Thang Long-Hanoi. With its historical and architectural values, Tran Quoc pagoda is famous for its sacred Buddha land, which attracts many Buddhists and visitors to Vietnam. Ready for some grave photos and learn more about Buddhism?
Next, we are going to visit the Ho Chi Minh complex (Ho Chi Minh mausoleum, the Presidential palace, House on stilts. Those places are the final resting place of Uncle Ho, and where He lived and worked from 1954 – 1969).
Goodbye Uncle Ho’s Complex, we’ll drive to the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology! This is the most recent yet probably the largest and undoubtedly the most interesting Museum in Hanoi and VietNam. There are both indoor and outdoor sections, while the in–housed exhibition is particularly informative, the outdoor display and activities make the museum stand out from the rest.
There are a number of houses modeled after the traditional architecture of ethnic minorities, especially those who live in Northern and Central highlands. It’s obviously a perfect destination for learning deeply about the culture of Vietnam!
At noon, we will have lunch at a local restaurant with so many delicious Vietnamese dishes! Then, we are going to take a short break to rest!
Are you curious about which is the first university in Vietnam? This is exactly the Temple of Literature! Being an ancient school of Thang Long and the first university in Vietnam, the Temple of Literature is acknowledged as an ancient historical-cultural heritage that gives you a deeper understanding of Hanoi’s years of culture and tradition.
How about old prisons look like in Vietnam? Now, we will discover Hoa Lo prison, built in 1899. The French kept mainly political prisoners here along with those awaiting sentencing at the nearby Court of Justice.

This tour’s spots were decent. However, it’s important to note that the HCM complex is closed on monday and friday. If you plan to visit these places, be mindful of your schedule. Unfortunately, we didn’t check this information carefully before booking, so we missed the opportunity to see Ho Chi Minh in person. Nonetheless, they took me to the Women’s Museum, which was still interesting. We hope to return to Hanoi soon to visit the mausoleum.

If you have one day to explore Hanoi, I highly recommend joining this tour. It takes you to iconic places that are considered symbols of Hanoi. For instance, I captured beautiful pictures at Tran Quoc Pagoda, Ho Chi Minh Complex, and more. It’s important to note that these places require proper attire, and thankfully, Mrs. Tham advised me on the suitable dress. I am extremely grateful to Vietnam Is Awesome for this wonderful experience.

I enjoyed how the destinations were combined in this tour. It was well-balanced, not overwhelming but sufficient. Considering our limited time of just one day, there were a few priority places to visit, such as the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. However, the highlight of the tour was undoubtedly the water puppet show. I felt a sense of excitement as I watched the characters perform on the water stage, skillfully controlled by the artisan behind the curtain.

I recently took the Hanoi city tour and it was truly a remarkable experience. I was able to visit the most famous spots in Hanoi, including the Hoa Lo prison which was a very emotional and eye-opening experience. The local lunch in Hanoi’s old quarter was absolutely delicious and gave me a glimpse into the daily life of the friendly locals. The tour also took us to some local markets, street food stalls, and unique workshops which added to the charm of the city. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Hanoi.

It was truly awesome. I believe that dedicating a full-day tour to explore essential places such as the Ho Chi Minh complex, Tran Quoc Pagoda, Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, Hoa Lo Prison, and more is truly worthwhile. I learned so much about Ho Chi Minh, and the museum had a fascinating resemblance to an art museum, despite its political focus.
