There is no experience like taking a bus in Vietnam. Sure, you can see videos and be in awe and sometimes shocked but there is quite like the feeling you get once you finally get on experience the adventure for yourself. In this following story I will share my feelings and experience with you.
It is entertaining and thrilling at the same time. You find yourself in the middle of traffic or sometimes no traffic at and wandering “oh my god, why is he eating noodles while driving?” Or you get the bus driver who loves to take selfies and facetime while driving on the highway. It’s beyond remarkable and only you can believe it once you experience it.
After living here for half a decade, I guess I have become numb to it but sometimes I witness travelers or even expats who have not been here that long and their face says it all. Of course, not all bus drivers in Vietnam are bad and of course there are bad bus drivers all around the globe. But for the purpose of this story I just wanted to talk about bus drivers in Vietnam.
One day when you travel or live here you will fully understand what I was trying to say. It is really something you have to experience to believe and understand. Even with all these risks locals must take the bus daily and foreigners who want to visit places outside the city also have to use buses to travel to and from places of interest.
There really is no feeling like riding on a Vietnam bus, you face uncertainty at every turn, and really the bus drivers have your life in their hands. It is both exhilarating and terrifying the same time. It is one hell of an experience that you cannot understand unless you come here and go for a joy ride.
