Police and customs officers in Ho Chi Minh City have broken a drug ring, arrested four people and seized nearly 500 kilograms of crystal meth stashed in package pressing machines and about to be shipped overseas.
Hundreds of police officers raided a warehouse in Vinh Loc A Commune, Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City and arrested four people including on Saturday, officials said at a press conference on Sunday.
They added that the meth haul weighed almost 500 kg and was worth almost VND500 billion (US$ 21.4 million). It was hidden in four pressing machines packages and was about to be transported from Vietnam.
At the press meeting, Major General Pham Van Cac, a senior official from the Ministry of Public Security, said that the drug dealers were cunning and caused trouble for officers by loading the meth volume onto an apparent supermarket delivery car and leaving it there for their associates to pick up.
