I was lucky enough to be in Hanoi on that festive weekend. The streets around Hoan Kiem Lake, washed by a little morning rain, were filled with strolling townspeople, music, sunshine and an army of runners.

And my heart rejoiced. Almost all of these people walked without masks and were not at all afraid of a pandemic due to the fact that the government quickly adopted strict restrictive measures on entry and paid great attention to outbreaks of the disease within the country. There were a couple of lockdowns without protests or demonstrations, and the discipline and patience of the Vietnamese people earned Vietnam a life without fear.

I am lucky enough to live in safe Vietnam now!
