Earlier this year, my boyfriend and I decided to fulfill a dream I've had for years now... Leave Hanoi, pack all that we can onto two motorbikes, and start driving around Vietnam.
We set no time constraints, and decided to book only a few days ahead at a time. With both of us being super into documenting culture and landscapes (he through video and me through photos), we longed for a sense of freedom in which we could really get to know this beautiful country we call home, and allow our creativity to blossom surrounded by the country's magnificence.
Our plan was to first tackle the North, doing a big loop: Hanoi --> Ba Be --> Cao Bang --> Ha Giang --> Sapa and eventually back to Hanoi. It being winter time, we knew it was going to be difficult, but wonderful. Little did we know how absolutely magical it would actually turn out to be! From there we planned to make our way ALL the way down south, stopping at as many places as we could, and seeking out gems throughout the country.
We managed to make it down to Tam Ky, just south of Hoi An, before Covid-19 hit. It was a huge blow to us to have to bring our journey of a lifetime to a screeching halt. But we knew that in order to stay safe in these times of uncertainty, we had to remain isolated in one spot.
And so we moved our things into a lovely little home in Hoi An. It is from here that over the next few months I will be sharing with you the collection of photos I took while documenting our epic trip. My hope is to share with everyone the small details of how special Vietnam truly is, and to help others feel as if they are here, exploring the land and culture. I hope my photos allow you to get away from the bubble you are in now, and feel as if you are free, even if for a split second.
We are hopeful and positive that we will be able to continue with our journey one day. To us, it didn't end, it just became longer. We look forward to the day that we can pick it back up again, and once again share our experiences. I wish that these photos will stir up a sense of memory, excitement, and hope within you. In this time of immense difficulty, remember change is not always bad, and don't forget how beautiful the world out there truly is!
Stay safe, and stay positive. Wishing all the best for each and every one of you.
