To clean its pipes and reservoirs from oil contamination, the Vinaconex Water Supply Joint Stock Company (Viwasupco) has cut off water supply to the southwestern part of Hanoi.

Water companies receiving supply from Viwasupco to redistribute it to households on Wednesday said the big company's supply has been reduced since Tuesday.

When the supply is restored, they said, it would rely on the cleaning process of Viwasupco.

Approximately 270,000 families have been affected in the capital city.

A representative of the Ha Dong Water One-Member Limited Liability Company (Hadowa) said it would bring its stations in full throttle to compensate for some 40,000 cubic meters of water no longer available daily from Viwasupco.

The Viwaco Joint Stock Company, which purchases from Viwasupco about 200,000 cubic meters of water a day, said it would use water from reserved sources and send tankers to houses in the affected areas

Viwasupco provides the entire southwestern part of Hanoi with 300,000 cubic meters per day, including Thanh Xuan, Hoang Mai, Cau Giay, Ha Dong and several downtown districts.
