In a fierce competition against countries such as China, India, Singapore and Thailand, Vietnam was named the leading tourist destination in Asia at the 2021 World Travel Awards. The commendable win is a testament to Vietnam’s global allure to travellers and wanderlusters despite the novel coronavirus pandemic.

UNESCO heritage site Ha Long Bay was also crowned Asia’s leading tourist attraction thanks to its sparkling waters, towering limestone cliffs, hidden lagoons and rich cultural heritage.

The World Travel Awards was first launched in 1993 to identify locations and attractions worthy of world recognition. Awards are decided by a mix of public vote as well as the data and opinions of experts within the tourism industry.

The Wall Street Journal has likened it to the "travel industry's equivalent of the Oscars". As a tourism powerhouse, Vietnam certainly lays out the red carpet for star-studded and unique experiences.
